With the growth of competitiveness, both for profit and social organizations, there is an increase in interaction between service providers and users. This increase in interaction has led, among other changes, to the emergence/increase of co-creation processes. Given this scenario, the research aimed to understand the value co-creation process in Brazilian university libraries. The study context encompasses the library systems and/or networks of Brazilian federal public universities. Data collection was carried out through exploratory interviews with library system managers; a questionnaire was applied to library system managers from sixty-three (63) Brazilian federal public universities; and the I Workshop on Value Co-creation in Information Units was held, in which a focus group was conducted with information unit managers and undergraduate and postgraduate students. Through data analysis, aspects and characteristics influencing the co-creation process in the context of university libraries were identified, such as: one-way communication, bureaucratic processes, limited interaction with users, limited operating and operated resources, among others. The theoretical contribution of the literature enabled the discussion of these aspects, as well as the making of inferences about them. The discussion of these aspects led to the proposal of guidelines to expand co-creation processes in university libraries. As a result, the research presents a set of four guidelines: 1) interaction; 2) cooperation; 3) monitoring; 4) communication, which enable the expansion of co-creation processes in the context of libraries.
