A abordagem analítica de domínio para a organização do conhecimento (e para o campo mais amplo da Biblioteconomia e Ciência da Informação) é delineada. O artigo revisa as discussões e propostas sobre a definição de domínios e fornece um exemplo de um estudo analítico de domínio no campo dos estudos de arte. Variedades de análise de domínio, bem como críticas e controvérsias, são apresentadas e discutidas.
