Abstract

This paper discusses the relation between Performance, Theatre and Anthropology. We present the origins of the relations between performance and anthropology, listing the main ideas from North- American and French pioneers. We compare the connections between artists and anthropologists like Richard Schechner and Victor Turner, Eugenio Barba and Kirsten Hastrup. Finally, we discuss the movements and the different apprehensions of performance and the productive way in which the relation between performance and anthropology has been built in recent years.
