Abstract

This article analyses Circus Amok, a circus company founded in 1989 in New York City, United States, and directed by Jennifer Miller. Circus Amok is an important reference for the debate on circus and political engagement, and especially for the discussion on gender. Through the study of secondary sources, appreciation of video shows and an interview with Jennifer Miller, I seek to discuss the poetics and sensibilities that are engendered in Circus Amok's creations, as well as the strategies put into practice to create works which, at the same time, presents itself in the logic of the spectacle of attractions and articulates a political discourse that questions power structures.
