Abstract

In this interview, Lúcia Santaella challenges us to think about the potential of semiotics in its interfaces with communication, design, intelligence technologies, and also with biology, geology, geometry in an interdisciplinary perspective. She evaluates some of her main works and recognizes the link between semiotics and politics, which she has explored in a transversal way since her first books in the 1980s, establishing a dialogue with Marx and Althusser, until the most recent ones, in which she performs a semiotic reading of works by Agamben, Foucault and Negri / Hardt. Santaella also questions the current use of social networks, discusses the role of science in the face of fake news and confesses trusting that the love of knowledge and the bet on education are antidotes to the fundamentalisms that emerge in different instances of society.

Alexandre Rocha da Silva, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul

Alexandre Rocha da Silva possui graduação em Comunicação Social (Jornalismo) pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1994), mestrado em Semiótica pela Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (1999), doutorado em Ciências da Comunicação pela Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (2003), doutorado-sanduíche em Sémiotique - Centre d Étude de La Vie Politique Française (2002) e pós-doutorado na Universite de Paris III (Sorbonne-Nouvelle) (2005-6). Atualmente é pesquisador do CNPq (bolsista produtividade), professor do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Comunicação e Informação da Faculdade de Biblioteconomia e Comunicação da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Tem experiência na área de Comunicação, com ênfase em Semiótica, Teorias da Comunicação, Audiovisualidades e Micropolíticas. Autor de A dispersão na semiótica das minorias e Comunicação e minorias, também participou da organização de livros, entre os quais Imagem e tecnologias da representação, Audiovisualidades da cultura, Do audiovisual às audiovisualidades: convergência e dispersão nas mídias, Percursos semióticos: significação, codificação, semiose e interface, Semiótica da comunicação, Semiótica e linhas de fuga. Foi editor das revistas Rastros e Em Questão, e sub-editor da Revista Fronteiras. Atualmente é editor da Revista Intexto, coordenador do Grupo de Pesquisa Semiótica da Comunicação da Sociedade Brasileira de Estudos Interdisciplinares da Comunicação (Intercom) e coordenador do Diretório CNPq Semiótica e culturas da comunicação (GPESC). Foi vice-coordenador do PPGCOM/UFRGS em 2015 e 2016.
