Author Guidelines

Intexto welcomes contributions from professors and doctorate researchers in the field of Communication and related areas. Works in co-autorship will be accepted provided that the primary author be a doctor. PhD students may submit reviews and interviews.

Requirements for submission:

1. The text must be unpublished in Brazil and not be under evaluation to be published by any other journal. Extended or improved versions of work previously published in conference papers will be accepted on the condition that there is at least 30% new or changed text in respect to the original and that this is informed in the submission (Intexto uses the plagiarism detection software Turnitin Originality);

2. Any material submitted for evaluation must follow the SUBMISSION TEMPLATE, which contains detailed instructions on the data to be sent, its format, as well as the standards of Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas (ABNT) to be used;

3. The journal accepts texts written in Portuguese, English, French, Italian or Spanish (title, abstract and keywords should be informed in the original language, in Portuguese and English);

4. Articles should have an extension of 25 to 50 thousand characters with space, including abstracts and references. Reviews must be between 3500 and 5 thousand characters with space, and interviews should be between 10 and 25 thousand characters with spaces. For corrections requested by reviewers, it is allowed to increase the character count by up to 10%, if necessary;

5. Articles should include introduction (with a clear definition of the objectives of the text), methodology, analysis/reporting of results and conclusions/closing remarks;

6. The title, abstract and keywords should be clear and objective, and designate what the text actually produced, avoiding metaphorical, abstract and subjective terms;

7. Submissions should be made through Sistema Eletrônico de Editoração de Revistas through user/author’s registration. Upon registering a profile in the system, report the requested data avoiding the use of abbreviations. Save login and password to monitor the editorial process. The system of the journal is case sensitive in both fields, therefore, to access the system, you must enter the alphanumeric characters observing this characteristic;

8. When forwarding the article to the journal through its system, the author which will make the submission should be registered and logged. The following data/files will be requested during the submission process: authors’ full name and institutional affiliation, ORCID, e-mail and a short biography; title, abstract and keywords in the original language of submission, in Portuguese and in English; digital file with the text and embedded images; additional documents (images or audio);

9. Digital images – photos or graphs – (.doc or .rtf), in addition to being inserted in the text, should be submitted as supplementary documents in TIF or JPG format, with resolution between 200 and 300 dpi.  The titles, sources, and descritption must accompany the images inserted in the text as per instructions contained in the submission template;

10. Tables and charts with written information should be inserted into the text in an editable format to enable machine-readable readability.

11. Signed articles, as well as the images within them, are responsibility of the authors. The Authorship and Responsibility Statement and the Data Availability Statement must be duly completed and signed by all authors.

12. As of September 2021, a minimum period of two years is required between the publication of an article and a new submission by the same author, either as main author or co-author. That is, anyone who has an article accepted and published by Intexto must wait at least two years before submitting a new manuscript to the journal.

Intexto is an open access journal that does not practice Article processing Charge / Article Submission Charge.

Notes to authors on the editorial process

Manuscripts submitted to Intexto pass by a plagiarism detection program to determine its originality before going through peer review.

In addition, all works submitted to the jornal undergo three stages determined by the structure of Sistema Eletrônico de Editoração de Revistas (SEER), adopted by Intexto.

Awaiting designation: when submitted, the texts are in this stage. After a first assessment by the editorial board regarding whether the article meets the requirements of the journal’s editorial policy – available at the main menu [About > Focus and scope] – the texts is moved on to the process of evaluation.

Awaiting evaluation: in this stage, the works submitted have their authorship data removed and are forwarded to the referees. The texts remain is this stage untill their final acceptance (or refection). Therefore, in case reformulation and further assessment are required, the article will maintin this status.

Under editing: stage in which the text is approved in its final version and is forwarded for text editing and, after that, layout editing for publication.

The details of the text are also available in three main ways that allow the exchange of information/files between the author and the editorial board throughout the process:

Summary: where data about the article (metadata) conveyed in the submission process, as well as the original file are accessible.

Assessment: you can verify the file that was forwarded to the evaluators, the editorial decisions and check on the register of e-mails exchanged between the editorial board and the authors. Files that were assessed as requiring some sort of rewrite are redirected in this section.

Editing: you can monitor the revision of text, citation style (ABNT standards for academic formatting) and layout of the approved contributions.
