Journalism and exclusion: notes for a comparative analysis between two patterns of coverage on social issues related to childhood and youth

Abstract

This paper presents partial results of a research about journalistic practices in the coverage on the issue of social exclusion involving children and teenagers. After a comparative analysis, we suggest the hypothesis that journalistic “minimum standards” are less present in “current events” than in “special features”. These partial results are developed over the monitoring of ANDI, a news agency related to Children’s Rights, and stories published in O Globo, one of the most important Brazilian newspapers.
