Interlocutions between the Educational Thought of Pope Francis and Paulo Freire

Abstract

This article analyzes the educational philosophies of Pope Francis and Paulo Freire, exploring potential dialogues and convergences between their perspectives. Employing a methodological approach based on documentary and bibliographic research, it examines speeches and official documents of Pope Francis alongside Paulo Freire's seminal works: Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Pedagogy of Autonomy, and Pedagogy of Hope. The analysis reveals significant areas of convergence, as well as nuanced differences, in their approaches to key themes such as humanizing education, integral education, education as an agent of transformation, education and hope, environmental education, and the interconnectedness of education, love, and responsibility.
