POSTMATERIALISTIC VALUES AND NORMATIVE ADHESION TO THE DEMOCRACY AMONG THE BRAZILIANS

Abstract

One of the derived hypotheses of the theory of the human development associates the prioritization of goals and postmaterialistics objectives and the occurrence of values and favorable attitudes to the establishment, consolidation and deepening of democratic regimes. The present article intends to verify the validity of such statement for the national context, endowed with characteristics quite different from the postindustrial nations for which the theory in subject was formulated originally. Using data of the project World Values Survey the work presents results of tests of associations and also of regression models that confirm the supposition relationship, demonstrating that postmaterialistic individuals tend her also manifest relatively more democratic values in the national scenery.
