Although quality system certification of construction companies in Brazil started in 1997, only in 1999 the first design organisations started to implement quality management systems. Nowadays, there is an increasing number of design companies that see the implementation of quality management systems as an opportunity for improving their products and services. This article describes a methodology for implementation of quality management systems in micro and small construction design companies. The methodology was jointly developed by SEBRAE/SC and UFSC. The effectiveness of the methodology was assessed during its application to a group of design offices from Florianópolis-SC. Based on a critical analysis of the proposed methodology, some suggestions are made for its improvement, including a revision of the checklist restructure; employees training; increasing the involvement of junior consultants; establishment of monthly goals for producing documentation; and the inclusion of a meeting with the companies at an intermediate stage of process implantation. Finally, a new schedule for carrying out the activities is proposed.Downloads
