Sensitivities in collapses: towards a social psychology “between worlds”

The article reflects on the collapse of social psychology in the face of extreme weather events, such as the floods in Rio Grande do Sul and the fires in the Amazon, which expose the crisis of the colonial separation between humans and nature. It discusses how the discipline, forged in a context of colonial modernity, reproduces dichotomies (humans x nature, culture x nature) that limit its ability to respond to contemporary collapses. It proposes decolonizing social psychology through dialogues with indigenous and quilombola cosmoperceptions, which understand life as a multispecies network. The collective writing, marked by climatic affectations, questions the central status of the “human” and suggests fictional fabulations as a method for imagining other possible worlds. It highlights the urgency of rethinking the “social” beyond an anthropocentric perspective, incorporating so-called marginalized knowledge and confronting cosmophobia (fear of ecological complexity). The text proposes a political, ethical, and onto-epistemological reinvention of Social Psychology in times of catastrophe.
