Psychological care during the 2024 floods in Rio Grande do Sul: how to problematize?

This article aims to investigate the conditions of possibility for problematizing the
provision of psychological care as a response from the profession to the 2024 floods in Rio
Grande do Sul. To this end, the text relies on theoretical and conceptual tools from the field of
critical social psychology, seeking to consider not only the possibilities of constructing a
response to the questions raised but also the historical formations that allow these questions to
be posed. As developments, this text presents a historical and political narrative of what
appears to be a permanent climate emergency, highlighting how neoliberalism often reduces
the notion of care to a practice disconnected from social health policies. Furthermore, we hope to contribute with questions for future research that aim to address the topic through the
lens of problematization.
