This article discusses de relationship between ecological journalism and environmental education having as a background the development of a new course - Ecological Journalism - in the undergraduate programme in Journalism at FABICO/UFRGS. The conceptual and methodological framework for the course was built on the ideas of Paulo Freire, Edgar Morin, Fritjof Capra, Leonardo Boff, Maturana, José Lutzenberger and Victor Bacchetta. Positive results can be seen in the enhancement of students critical consciousness related to environmental problems, and their engagement in the creation and production of a magazine called Oca which means home in Guarani.
