Abstract

This research analyses the production of the newspaper section Valeviver, of the Valeparaibano newspaper, in São José dos Campos (SP). The main goal is to identify the origins of the guidelines of the varieties section, which is not attached to the demands of factual journalism, and to reflect on the process of production of readers’ favorite section of the newspaper. Based on the gatekeeper theory, it points to the main characteristics of this type of editing, which reflects much more the decision and preferences of the staff than, in the criteria of newsworthiness.
