In the present work we analyze the scientific output indicators, number of articles and citations, for different knowledge fields, in particular for Astronomy and Astrophysics, for authors addressed to Chilean research institutions. The initial motivation for the present analysis was the disclosure of a ranking based on incomplete information, but with a great repercussion among communities interested in bibliometric indicators. The analysis at the level of knowledge subfields shows how the concentration of scientific outputs and their citations in a single field can bias overall citations averages and ranking positions. We also verify the weight of a single institution, the European Southern Observatoty (ESO), on general indicators at the country level. A coauthorship network involving researchers addressed to ESO is buildup and and analyzed, revealing some characteristics of the collaborations in large scale research facilities focused on Astronomy.
