Discoursive Corporality in Women’s Magazines: a study of editorials
Keywords:
Gender Feminine. Feminine Body. Women’s Magazines.Abstract
This paper issues the institution of an idealized pattern of feminine body operated on the discourses of “women’s magazines”. Such definition of meanings is analysed through the editorial texts of four titles of women’s magazines issued between September, 2001 and February, 2002, in which the construction of the cover girl photograph is made explicit as a discoursive strategy, actualizing discoursively a definition of an “ideal” female body. So, once this process plays a part and reinforces cultural patterns previously extant, I articulate this discursive phenomenon to a more general concern, that of the social definition of gender roles in our society.Downloads
