This article presents a comparative analysis of the visibility factors of academic and scientific production in Portuguese-speaking African countries in relation to linguistic blocs where English, French, and Arabic are the official languages. Specifically, it compares the presence, rankings, and impact indicators of universities and scientific journals from African countries in platforms such as Scimago Journal & Country Rank, African Journals Online, and the CSIC’s Ranking Web of Universities. Methodologically, the study is exploratory in nature. The results reveal significant disparities: while institutions like the University of Cape Town from South Africa and the University of Alexandria in Egypt lead continental rankings, Lusophone African universities remain poorly ranked. Similarly, the number of journals from African Portuguese countries speaking indexed in these databases is limited, especially when compared to countries like Nigeria, Kenya, Morocco, and Cameroon, which have several journals with notable impact metrics. The study underscores the urgent need for policies that foster the openness and international indexing of academic and scientific output in Portuguese-speaking African countries.
