Digital Poetics and hypertext: an essay on Patchwork Girl and Storyspace

This article aims to examine hypertext writing, through a computer program, Storyspace, and a piece of fiction in hypertext, Patchwork Girl, generated by that software. Hypertext, as a writing technology, must be studied through its technical characteristics, and how these influence writing in and the new poetics in digital media. In this essay, technical and literary characteristics of the software have been analyzed. In Patchwork Girl, we have verified material and literary features and their relationship with the software. This essay focuses the concept of digital poetics, meta-hypertext, and finally concludes that the technical features of the software are directly responsible for the quality of the work analyzed here.Downloads
