Dance in Schools… What for?

Abstract

The essay is a defense for the presence of dance in the curriculum of elementary and secondary education. Why should we have dance in schools? Dance in schools… What for? Based on the work developed over the years by the authors, which involved searching for articles, participating in lectures, writings, among other strategies, this text points to eight points of argument that can be unfolded and gathered in other configurations. As a conclusion, the importance of dance in elementary and secondary education is highlighted, as, in addition to legislation, it enables students to develop knowledge about their own bodies, instigating their creative capacity and expanding their historical and cultural horizons.

Author Biographies

Flavia Pilla do Valle, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul

É professora da Graduação de Dança e do Mestrado em Artes Cênicas da UFRGS. Doutora em Educação pela UFRGS. Mestre em Dança pela New York University e Especialista pelo Laban/Bartenieff Institute. Tem formação em dança contemporânea, moderna, balé. Foi autora dos Referenciais Curriculares da Dança/Arte do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul em 2009. Em 2013, dois de seus livros foram selecionados pelo Programa Nacional Biblioteca na Escola ? PNBE do Professor 2013. Desde 2012, coordena o PIBID/Dança e ou RP/Dança da UFRGS/CAPES. Em 2015 foi contemplada pelo Edital Universal do CNPq (2015-2017). Em 2015 lançou a primeira edição da Especialização em Dança da UFRGS, do qual foi coordenadora. Em agosto de 2015 a setembro de 2019 assumiu a chefia da COMGRAD do curso de dança desta mesma universidade É jurada do Carnaval de São Paulo desde 2017. Na universidade que atua, foi orientadora dos trabalhos que receberam a premiação máxima dos Salões UFRGS: em 2019 no Salão de Ensino e em 2018 no Salão de Iniciação Científica.

Rubiane Falkenberg Zancan , UFRGS

Rubiane Falkenberg Zancan is a professor at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). She is the coordinator of the Graduation Committee of the Teaching degree program in Dance at UFRGS. She holds a Master’s degree and a Doctoral degree in Performing Arts from UFRGS, a specialist degree in Interdisciplinarity and Languages, and a Teaching degree in Dance from Universidade de Cruz Alta. She was the coordinator of the Dance Program at Universidade de Cruz Alta from December 2004 to January 2011.
