O artigo estuda o movimento duplo, característico da ISTA e das instituições culturais europeias que, nos anos 1970, revelaram as artes cênicas asiáticas aos atores euro-americanos. Nos países de origem, a transmissão era feita a longo prazo através da imitação dos mais velhos. Os mestres (chamados gurus) nem sempre procuravam explicitar verbalmente seu conhecimento tácito. Nas demonstrações técnicas para o público ocidental e nas oficinas curtas para os alunos europeus, os professores modificaram o processo de aprendizagem, incluindo indicações verbais em uma língua estrangeira. Ao traduzir e transmitir seu savoir-faire tácito, os performers também transformam sua prática?
