This article presents brief considerations about grotesque realism (Bakhtin, 2010), present in some manifestations arising from the so-called “popular culture”, with an emphasis on the performances and processes of clown training. By highlighting the relationship between laughter and violence, the article provides examples of how this association has been perceived by students of the Degree Course in Theatre Teaching at the Federal University of Pernambuco, in experiences with the clowning technique.Downloads
