Transgenderities in Performance: gender disobedience and anticoloniality in the performing arts

Abstract

The article presents the scenic devices of transgender performativity in face of the practical and theoretical paths of anticolonial rupture of body norms. It is questioned here the extent to which gender disobedience is an essential factor in the struggle against the colonial project, highlighting how Eurocentrism and whiteness are amalgamated with the precepts of compulsory cisgenderity as body politics. Two performances are analyzed: Tetagrafias and Tran(S)arau (Coimbra/Portugal, 2015 to 2017). Therefore, the coercive aspects of cisnormativity are presented as hegemonic and colonial conception of corporeality, in scene and in daily life.

Dodi Leal é travesti educadora e pesquisadora em Artes Cênicas. Professora Adjunta do Centro de Formação em Artes (CFA) e do Instituto de Humanidades, Artes e Ciências (IHAC) do Campus Sosígenes Costa (CSC) da Universidade Federal do Sul da Bahia (UFSB). Doutora em Psicologia Social pela Universidade de São Paulo (USP), com estágio doutoral no programa de Doutoramento em Estudos Artísticos da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra, concentração na área de Estudos Teatrais e Performativos. Licenciada em Artes Cênicas (USP). Habilitada em Cinema e vídeo no Baccalauréat interdisciplinaire en arts da Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC, Québec-Canadá). 

André Rosa, Professor Adjunto do Centro de Ciências Humanas, Letras e Artes da Universidade Estadual de Maringá

André Rosa é um dissidente sexual que transita entre a performance, a pedagogia e as desobediências anticoloniais. Ator/dançarino/performer, pesquisador das Artes da Cena e professor adjunto da Licenciatura em Teatro da Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM). Doutoramento em Estudos Artísticos - Teatrais e Performativos - pela Universidade de Coimbra/Portugal. Mestrado em Artes Cênicas pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Artes Cênicas da Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA). Licenciatura em Educação Artística com Habilitação em Artes Cênicas pela Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP).
