In Peirce's conception, science is that which living scientists are doing. Therefore, science should not be confused with knowledge already placed on shelves, but rather it refers to that which is in development and in a process of continuity. Taking this concept as its motto, the aim of this article is to draw the lines of force of what the active semioticians are doing to keep alive semiotics as a field of knowledge and research in action in Brazil. For this, the main seeds and some genealogical wires which conducted studies to their current conditions will be sought. Emphasis will be placed in institutions that give shelter and ensure the legitimacy and visibility of the work done by researchers and their groups. Hence the aim is not to raise the specific production, that is, to bring into discussion the bibliographic theoretical content of the work of semioticians both Brazilian and international who had their works translated in the country. It is, rather, to map, putting in relief lines, trends and the different working groups that sprang up at some point of time and had enough strength to remain active, pointing with some security towards their continuity in the futureDownloads
