4) Based on the reviewers' opinions, the responsible editor decides on the publication of the manuscript.
5) The result of the assessments is given to the authors with the guarantee of anonimity of the evaluators. The response of the peer review process depends on the agility of the reviewers and usually takes about 12 weeks.

Journal History
In the first semester of 1997, the journal Intexto was launched by the Graduate Program in Communication and Information, currently known as the Graduate Program in Communication, of the School of Library Science and Communication at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (PPGCOM/FABICO/UFRGS). In its inaugural editorial, authored by Prof. Dr. Luís Milman, the journal's objectives in the field of Communication were presented: a commitment to editorial quality, in order to enhance and accelerate the dissemination of scientific knowledge in the field; collaboration with both Brazilian and foreign researchers; thematic plurality and interdisciplinarity, fostering the discussion of theoretical and methodological issues; and the accessibility of research, through the use of electronic media.
Like other scientific journals, the magazine undergoes constant changes in the composition of its editorial board, maintaining its original premises and adapting to new demands, so that its contributors have the opportunity to participate in the growth not only of the journal itself but also of the field in which they are involved, complementing their professional development.
The submission guidelines for publication in 1997 included print, electronic (email), or physical (3 1/2-inch floppy disk, disk recording format) formats. The file format needed to be compatible with Microsoft Word, as it was the most widely used word processor among PC (personal computer) users at the time. The file format needed to be compatible with Microsoft Word, as it was the most widely used word processor among PC (personal computer) users at the time.
In addition to these technical aspects, it was necessary to provide information such as: title, author’s name, reference to their professional or academic affiliation (faculty or student), accompanied by a brief biography (up to 10 lines), including residential address, phone number, email, and the URL of the author’s or institution’s website. Currently, the process is electronic, requiring authors to register in the system and submit their work according to the guidelines found in the "Online Submissions" section on the journal's website, using the template carefully designed to facilitate reading and provide identity to the publication.
Until 2014, Intexto was published semiannually. In 2001, the journal had only one annual issue, and in 2002, it went through a period of reformulations, temporarily interrupting its publication. From 2003 onwards, the publication was resumed under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Alê Primo (UFRGS). In the nineteenth issue, published in the second half of 2008, the journal migrated from the platform hosted by the Latin American Institute for Advanced Studies (ILEA) to the Electronic Journal Publishing System (SEER). During this period, new visual and graphic identity projects were adopted. These changes occurred during the coordination of Prof. Dr. Miriam de Souza Rossini and the Editorial Board composed of Dr. Ida Stumpf, Dr. Karla Muller, Dr. Lizete Oliveira, Dr. Marcia Benetti, and Dr. Rudimar Baldissera (Rossini, 2008).
Although the journal has had the participation of authors from different locations since its creation, starting with its thirtieth issue in 2014, the Editorial Board—composed of Prof. Dr. Alexandre Rocha da Silva, Dr. Ana Taís Martins Portanova Barros, and Dr. Suely Fragoso—reinforced its commitment to internationalization and the circulation of the journal's production. Measures adopted include accepting submissions in English, French, Italian, and Spanish, as well as optimizing editorial processes to ensure the originality of content. iming for greater accessibility and visibility to the works it publishes, the magazine's website has versions for reading in Portuguese, Spanish and English.
The first dossier published by Intexto focused on International Journalism and was released in issue no. 28, in 2013. Starting in 2015, various dossiers and special issues were published, contributing to the deepening of debates on emerging topics. In the first semester of 2015, under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Alexandre Rocha da Silva, the journal began adopting the online first model, with the aim of providing access to articles as soon as they have completed all stages of evaluation. Additionally, the journal started publishing three issues per year (on a four-monthly basis), meeting the “[...] social demand for agility in the socialization of the results of ongoing research at our universities.” (Barros; Silva; Fragoso, 2015).
In 2022, a special issue of the journal was published in honor of Prof. Dr. Alexandre Rocha da Silva, who passed away in 2021 and served as editor of Intexto since 2012. His management was shared with other members of the Editorial Board: Prof. Dr. Ana Tais Portanova, Prof. Dr. Suely Fragoso, and Prof. Dr. Basilio Alberto Sartor. Prof. Dr. Alexandre had a great appreciation for horizontality, which can be seen in the issue created in his honor, featuring articles co-authored by him and various students.
Since 2021, Intexto has adopted a continuous publication model, meaning that articles are published in their final version as soon as they are ready, without having to wait for other texts to be completed. There is one annual issue with new articles published periodically, every month. The formats of work published by the magazine are scientific articles, essays, interviews and reviews, with submissions remaining open throughout the year. Following editorial procedures guided by the Qualis classification for scientific journals, submissions must be original, have the potential to impact the field, and ensure diversity of perspectives, welcoming proposals from researchers both from different regions of the country and abroad.
Intexto has also updated its editorial policies regarding ethics, aligning with international guidelines through the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Concerning diversity, in 2023, the journal included the SAGER Guidelines (Sex and Gender Equity in Research) in its evaluation form, aiming to promote sex and gender equity in research. Regarding accessibility, the journal has implemented machine-readable tables and charts and image descriptions.
To continually enhance the diversity of specialists that comprise it, the Editorial Board is frequently updated, covering researchers from across Brazil and all regions of the world. The Editorial Board is currently composed of Prof. Dr. Basilio Alberto Sartor (joined in 2018), Prof. Dr. André Iribure Rodrigues (joined in 2024), and Dr. Thais Helena Furtado (joined in 2022), who began serving as editor-in-chief in 2024.
Prioritizing scientific and editorial excellence in its articles, Intexto is one of the few journals that includes text and bibliographic (ABNT) review for all accepted articles. The journal is indexed in both national and international databases, maintaining its commitment to disseminating research in the field of Communication through processes that combine the ethical aspects of scientific research with high-quality editorial practices and published work.
