Abstract

Modernity has considered children as historical subjects, who lived under unique, specific conditions and social circumstances, and aiming to characterize better this period of life, has been building up notions, concepts and images which are called childhood. The doctorate research we have conducted has showed the close bond between the concepts of childhood and subject idea in modernity. There is an interdependence relation between them and childhood is a necessary step forward toward adult life. This research has indicated that these concepts are part of a wider horizon called metaphysic model. Critique to these two categories shows how difficult it is to legitimate them in the post-metaphysic thought. We have affirmed before that childhood is plural, and now we ask what does it mean. How childhood is understood under these new circumstances is what we intend to discuss with this paper. This paper also presents 10 confluent aspects to think about childhood.
