Abstract

Focuses on the use of photography as a source for the History of Education, asking how this imagery source can contribute to the understanding of primary schooling in Espírito Santo, in the early years of the Republic in Brazil (1908-1928). In the theoretical-methodological field, it proposes a microscopic view, the integration of iconographic and commissioning data and the problematization of the power relations involved in the production, storage and use of the sources, enhanced by the use of the indicative method. One of the main contributions of photography to understanding the history of elementary school in Espírito Santo is the heuristic possibilities of the records, when linked to the contexts in which they were produced.
