Abstract

odular construction systems have been gaining prominence in the construction industry for providing faster execution, reduced waste generation, and more efficient use of materials. Among these solutions, the sandwich panel with a polyisocyanurate (PIR) core stands out, used as a lightweight vertical enclosure element. Although its use is well established in industrial and commercial buildings, its application in the residential sector still raises questions, especially regarding compliance with the Brazilian standard NBR 15575:2025, which sets minimum performance criteria for residential buildings. In this context, this study aimed to experimentally evaluate the mechanical performance of the sandwich panel with a PIR core under suspended load and hard body impact tests, verifying its conformity with the requirements for vertical enclosure systems in residential buildings. The results showed that the panel met the minimum performance level in the hard body impact test, maintaining localized dents without cracking or penetration. However, in the suspended load test, the panel did not reach the required minimum level, as there were insufficient resistance and adhesion to properly anchor the fastening system.
