Collaboration in the built environment
critical factors for the formation of BIM networks
Keywords:
Building Information Modeling (BIM), Collaborative networks, Construction Industry, Critical FactorsAbstract
This study investigates the critical factors for the formation of collaborative networks in the context of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the construction industry. For this purpose, a systematic literature review was conducted, resulting in a final portfolio of 25 scientific articles. The analysis of this portfolio, based on how the authors described conditions, practices, mechanisms, barriers, or structuring elements associated with BIM network collaboration, identified 63 factors associated with the formation of collaborative networks, organized into the three BIM Fields: technology, processes, and policies, and into analytical categories. Subsequently, the degree of relevance was evaluated by experts in the field using a Likert scale, establishing a comparative classification of relevance. The results indicate that elements such as legal and contractual adaptation, data quality and accessibility, system interoperability, and the use of standardized tools are among the most critical elements for network consolidation. The research shows that, although the topic is still in its early stages in the literature, its relevance is growing given the need for greater integration among the actors in the sector. As a contribution, the srudy offers a conceptual framework that can guide implementation practices and collaboration policies in BIM-enabled projects, reinforcing the importance of both formal and informal strategies for strengthening collaborative networks.
