This article focuses on the Gaining Autonomy & Medication Management Guide (GAM) as a mental health strategy implemented in Rio Grande do Sul through interconnected and subsequent research between 2014 and 2023, which promoted discussion groups and gave rise to a vast array of narratives. The first stage, occurring between 2014 and 2018, resulted in eight axes. Two of these axes are analyzed in this article: "relationship with experience: medications and diagnostics" and "user participation in knowledge production." The second phase, conducted in 2023, in turn, gave rise to fictional narratives aimed at discussing the theme of medicamentalization in the mental health of the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre. Finally, we consider that the GAM, despite several analytical limitations, contributes to questioning and disrupting the dichotomy between experience and knowledge, recognizing users as knowledge producers and professionals as embracers of experience.
