Rádio Bilola experience virtuality, coexistence and mental health care

The COVID-19 pandemic posed significant challenges to mental health, particularly in the task of sustaining social ties and promoting social reintegration within the Psychosocial Care Network. We present some findings from a doctoral intervention-research project that aimed to map out spaces between clinical care, art, and politics, through the immersion of the researcher-worker in a Center for Community Living and Culture in the Northeast of Brazil. The experience of this service during the pandemic is discussed and analyzed as a living strategy of deinstitutionalization in mental health, in which collective and self-managed engagement through a WhatsApp group gave rise to Radio Bilola. We argue that the actions developed were able to enhance ethical aspects that guide the Psychiatric and Health Reform, which are therefore fundamental to the psychosocial care paradigm, such as user participation and protagonism. We affirm the strength of this strategy as a potential catalyst for new practices in Psychosocial Care in such challenging times.
