The aim of this work is to present possibilities for teaching handball individual technical-tactical defensive elements in the categories under-14, under-16 and under-18. For this, we discuss the characteristics of players’ development at each category, and aspects related with the individual technical-tactical defensive elements (such as marking, floating, coverage and dissuasion) and defensive systems. Thus, it was possible to verify that the situational method is important to consider different aspects in each category by providing motor and cognitive experiences for the decision-making of defenders.
