The idea that the mere transmission of theoretical knowledge is enough to reach the pro-environmental behavior is now refuted. Other factors such as situated and experiential learning are fundamental to the attainment of these objectives. In this field, nature-based sport could constitute one of the education methodologies. This article presents a theoretical and critical review of the current paradigms for teaching environmental education and the potential of sport as a teaching methodology. The findings reveal that the benefits of nature-based sport intersect with the objectives of environmental education particularly at a stage of environmental awareness acquisition.
