Abstract

This study aimed to identify and analyze the reasons associated with the low representation of women as coaches. The participants were thirteen coaches of eight kind of sports. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and researches with sports institutions. It was found that women represent only 7% of Brazilian coaches. As reasons for the low female engagement in the position emerged barriers faced by coaches, difficulty of ascension, female acceptance of their exclusion, lack of women in profile and giving up of the career.
