This article dwells on the new challenges resulting from electronic books in regard to copyright. We make use of bibliographic research to identify and analyze the copyright´s characteristics and the proposals for changes in Brazilian legislation. We also describe the new ways of protection developed in order to make works available to the public, as well as to protect copyright, addressing Copyleft, Digital Right Management (DRM) and Creative Commons, among other new ways of protection. We conclude that the advent of electronic books has triggered a range of new debates in the publishing industry and among legislators, leading to a necessary and intense discussion that can provoke effective changes in copyright laws, changes that involve a better control of the process of access, use and publicizing in order to prevent illegal actions, the use of information without proper credit, plagiarism and reproduction of unauthorized copies.Downloads
