Bodies, utopias: dance and theater as alternatives of communication and citizenship

Study of artistic pieces that act in behalf of information, inclusion and different aesthetics in Rio de Janeiro and in nearby cities, this article aims to present and discuss initiatives that use theater and dance as media, as vehicles of information that promote citizenship and social inclusion by the contact with the Arts. In terms of methodology, it studies three groups -Companhia Étnica de Dança e Teatro, Teatro Novo and Periferia em Ação. As a method, it uses observation and interviews. The study confirms that in the three groups communication and education are preoccupations for the public and also for the members of the groups and their families. The article concludes that theater, in its communicative, educative and transgressor functions, shows itself as an important way to criticize society and propose a review of attitudes and views of the world.Downloads
