Memory and information in sci-fi: a point of temporal meeting La Jetée and Twelve Monkeys
Keywords:
Temporality. Information. Memory. Science fiction – Films.Abstract
This paper discusses issues concerning temporality, memory and information as the basis in contemporary paradigms of social memory, philosophy and information science. Its object is the film narrative and it is assumed that this narrative works in conjunction with information on the organizing action of narrating. It is observed that in the filmic narratives analyzed there are thematic convergences in two productions: La Jetée (1962) and Twelve Monkeys (1995). The paper problematizes the concepts of mediation, as an element which enables the mediation and negotiation of informational content as well as the social representations, approaching them to the social imaginary. It considers the approach and the difference between the two productions. The conclusion is that the information as an element of reference in the motion of time travel is, in both narratives, mediating the points of space-time traveled by the protagonists.Downloads
