The mediation of information on the AtoM digital platform

The study addresses the mediation of information in archives, from the use of digital platforms, more specifically AtoM, software used for the description, dissemination and access to archival documents. The research is characterized as an exploratory and descriptive study with the purpose of investigating the use of the referred platform in the Federal Institutions of Higher Education, verifying with the managers of the archives the difficulties encountered by the users of the same when searching for information, as well as understanding the functionality of the platform and document retrieval. In addition to other issues related to the mediation of information. For that, a questionnaire was used, with which empirical data were obtained, but which indicate a difficulty for the user in terms of familiarity with the platform and the retrieval of the desired information. The collected data indicate a need for improvement in the way information is mediated, as well as the need to develop actions with users, aimed at developing skills in research on the platform. It was also identified the need to study in depth the conceptualization of the terminology dissemination platform, since the respondents confused platform with document management system. It is concluded that there is a need to approach users so that they can understand and research the platform. In this way, it is suggested that each of the Federal Institutions of Higher Education develop guides, manuals or similar documents guiding users in the search for the document and its rapid recovery, in order to bring users closer and providing them with knowledge of the platform and the forms of research made available by the AtoM.
