This paper presents the ethical and technological principles that give rise to the Free Software Movement, and its relationship with the world of libraries and digital information management. It also presents some of the most popular applications of Free Software for information management at libraries, in order to show the scope and possibilities that these tools have in creating information systems at low cost, consistent with the ideal of a public cyberspace.Downloads
