Abstract

Introduction: First aid can be provided through basic knowledge offered to people outside the health field, especially in the school environment, where a large number of accidents occur. Objective: To identify how the topic of first aid is perceived in the practices of professionals in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. Method: Integrative Literature Review (ILR) carried out in the databases of the Virtual Health Library (BVS), SciVerse Scopus, National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Cochrane Library, Science Direct, Cummulative Index To Nursing And Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), using the combination of Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS)/Medical Subject Headings (MesH): first aid, teacher training, education, accident prevention, using the Boolean operator AND. Original research articles published in Portuguese, English, and Spanish between 2018 and 2022, convergent with the theme studied, were included. Theses, dissertations and final papers, books, literature review articles, opinion pieces, letters to the editor, experience or case reports and studies that did not meet the research objective were excluded. Results: Five articles were analyzed. The results showed that despite the interest, there was a lack of knowledge about first aid and in relation to Law nº 13722/Lucas Law, the need for training/qualification in first aid for professionals in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and the importance of nurses in training lay first aiders capable of providing assistance in emergency situations. Conclusion: This RIL showed the interest in knowledge and the need for training of professionals in Early Childhood and Elementary Education on first aid. Complementary studies are recommended, expanding the RIL search strategies and including the conduct of mixed-approach research that can strengthen the theme of first aid in schools and in the training of first aiders.
