Abstract

Introduction: The current of healthcare for the LGBTQIAPN+ population remains an issue that needs wider discussion. The lack of knowledge among healthcare professionals about the specific needs of this population highlights gaps in their professional training. Objective: To analyze the content of the Brazilian National Curriculum Guidelines for 12 health-related courses from the perspective of the Brazilian National Health Policy for the LGBTQIAPN+ population. Method: Documentary research, with a qualitative approach. The documents were examined using a thematic analysis approach. We first used an inductive approach to analyze the National LGBTQIAPN+ Health Policy and identify the main themes and subthemes addressed in this document. We then used a deductive approach to examine the content of the National Curriculum Guidelines of health courses using the previously defined themes and subthemes. Results: We were able to show that only the Guidelines of Pharmacy and Medicine courses address issues of gender identity and sexual diversity in their guidelines. It makes necessary to formulate new Guidelines for other undergraduate health courses aimed at training professionals qualified to provide health care to the LGBTQIAPN+ population and its specific needs. Conclusion: The National LGBTQIAPN+ Health Policy brought important advances in the reformulated Guidelines after its publication, and should support the reformulation of guidelines for other undergraduate health courses. This movement is essential to qualify health professionals to understand the LGBTQIAPN+ population and meet their neglected demands.
