Abstract

Initiatives to manage the knowledge in search of sustainable competitive advantage are being adopted for organizations in different areas. Knowledge management can be defined as a set of processes that includes knowledge creation, storage, dissemination, application and measurement within the organization. As any other organizational process, knowledge management should be evaluated in order to verify if it is achieving the expected results. The aim of this paper is to analyze metrics related with the knowledge management process phases. The research method was exploratory, where three experts in knowledge management were interviewed. The main results of this paper are: the process phases of knowledge management are creation, storage, dissemination, application and measurement, being that the process phases do not occur all in sequence, for example, the measurement occurs from the beginning to the end of the process; the metrics should have an alignment with business goals; a list of metrics identified in literature and commented by specialists, classified in quantitative and qualitative, financial and no-financial, process and result; the necessity to consider the organization goals with the knowledge management for the choice of the metrics.
