RESOURCE–BASED VIEW AND DYNAMIC CAPACITIES IN THE BRAZILIAN CONTEXT: ACADEMIC EVOLUTION AND PRODUCTION IN TEN YEARS OF CONTRIBUTIONS

Abstract

Being one of the most important study fields of the Administrative Science, the Strategy has obtained great theoretical development, producing diverse constructs with highlight on the theories of Resource Based View-RBV and the Dynamic Capabilities. The objective of this research was to investigate the production and evolution of the mentioned topics in the national scientific scenario from 1997 to 2006. The gathering of data was based on the EnANPAD, 3Es and EMA events, as well as three important Brazilian scientific journals: RAE, RAUSP and RAC. From the 4.548 researched papers, 72 were selected. The methodology used was the descriptive and quantitative type through a desk research, by means of 10 following variables: (1) production and evolution of RBV and Dynamic Capabilities in Brazil; (2) themes; (3) theoretical referential; (4) focus of the studies; (5) researched sectors; (6) characteristic of the analysis; (7) characteristic of the research; (8) types of research; (9) data gathering techniques; and (10) data analysis techniques. The results pointed out that the researches about RBV and Dynamic Capabilities in Brazil were delayed for 14 years compared to the USA, with the use of theoretical referential outdated for at least two years. It showed yet low concern related to the specification of the kind of research and the data gathering and analysis. The findings turned out the predominant use of qualitative techniques though they were evolving towards quantitative methods from 2003 on.
