Abstract

The text investigates the interactions between dance and music in the piece Colaboração: 16 variações sobre um tema (Collaboration: 16 variations on a theme) by the dancer Maria Alice Poppe and the musician Tato Taborda. Its structure, a set of variations on a theme that reappears at the end, echoes Bach’s Goldberg Variations. Each of the variations refers to seminal themes, works and issues in contemporary dance and contemporary music, such as silence, noise, listening and body awareness, deepening the reflection on the interaction between sound and gesture, in the works and concepts of others artists, but also in works by the two artists, created over 10 years of artistic collaboration.

Maria Alice Poppe, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Rio de Janeiro/RJ – Brasil

Maria Alice Poppe é bailarina formada pela Faculdade Angel Vianna, Professora Adjunta dos Cursos de Dança da UFRJ e Professora Colaboradora no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos Contemporâneos da Artes da UFF. Doutora em Artes Cênicas pela UNIRIO, com estágio doutoral no exterior pela Coventry University, investiga o corpo e suas relações poético-políticas com o chão e com a queda, e interfaces da dança com a música e a filosofia.

Tato Taborda, Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF)

Tato Taborda é compositor, intérprete e curador dedicado à experimentação musical, Doutor em Composição Musical pela UNIRIO, é professor do Curso de Artes e do Programa de Pós-graduação Estudos Contemporâneos das Artes da UFF, onde investiga as interfaces da sonoridade com as artes da cena, artes visuais e audiovisual. Compôs obras como a ópera A Queda do Céu, estreada na Bienal de Munique e Estratos, encomenda do festival de Donaueschingen.
