Abstract

Copeau, Bing and the laboratories of childhood. A group of children was the embryo of the École du Vieux Colombier.

The childhood inspired the pedagogical project of Jacques Copeau and Suzanne Bing for the renovation of the actor's art. The child and the children's games were taken by them as objects of observation and experimentation in what we call here "childhood laboratories". In this text, one of these laboratories is highlighted - the work of Copeau and Bing with a group of children in the Club de Gymnastique Rytmique of Vaugirard Street between 1915 and 1916 - considered by Copeau as the embryo of the École du Vieux Colombier. We seek to highlight the importance of the child as well as the relevance of Suzanne Bing in Copeau's pedagogy, aspects neglected in texts about the French director.
