Abstract

Novo Hamburgo is a town belonging to the city of Porto Alegre. In the heart of Novo Hamburgo, there was a corner which was considered a spot of sins: “an information popular center” whose communication processes both formal and informal have helped out the economy and the development of the region. Within this area, there have been several meetings and debates involving business in operation as well as those to set up. This paper aims to show that the café can be considered as a spot of folkcommunication based on a bibliographical research, records and oral accounts. Therefore, it puts into perspective the town and tracks back the history of over 60 years of the Avenida Café, outlining episodes involving the trade , the business, the advertisement and the events.
