Ethics Code

Intexto follows the ethics, good practice and transparency code of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), with the aim of maintaining the originality and quality of papers published here, as well as valuing and cherishing authors, evaluators and editors who are part of the Journal.

In case of suspicions of ethical infractions, any fitting community member of Intexto can make a report via the e-mail intexto@ufrgs.br. Reports received in other communication means may be forwarded to the Journal electronic address in order to be registered. The editor responsible for the text, or an invited member of the editorial committee, will investigate the suspicion infraction and may proceed according to COPE’s flowchart for investigation and ethical conduct, including a response to the complainant and retraction of the content in the Journal, as appropriate.

Authors, editors, revisers, and readers have ethical responsibilities and commitments adequate to their activity in the Journal.

 

Responsibilities of the authors

  • The manuscripts submitted to Intexto may be original (unpublished), and its authorship may be from the person registered as the author in the submission process. The copy or appropriation of ideas regarding any part of other texts, without the proper indication of citation and its complete reference, are considered plagiarism. Authors are committed to cite and reference any work which they have used in order to compose the text submitted to the Journal, including the ones of their own authorship.
  • It is always necessary for the author to inform (cite) all sources of the information included on the texts, including images of any kind (photographs, drawings, screenshots of sites, video frames, graphics, etc.), and links.
  • Submissions of already published texts are not accepted, with the exception of texts published in conference proceedings, however, those may have been object of significant alterations. Translations to Portuguese of texts of importance to the Communication field can be considered, as of an exclusive selection made by the Editorial Committee of Intexto, and peer review of the translation.
  • The Journal do not accept a manuscript to be submitted to Intexto and to other publisher simultaneously. Manuscripts submitted to Intexto, may be sent to other journals only after an explicit clearance by Intexto.
  • It is responsibility of the author to make it explicit that there are no conflicts of interest in the publication, and it is their responsibility to indicate if the research was financed, and by whom.
  • Authors must take responsibility for their texts.
  • When relevant, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) is allowed as a methodological support tool, provided that the manner and scope of its application are explicitly disclosed. The AI tool does not have authorial agency.

 

Responsibilities of the editors, Editorial board and Committee

  • To evaluate the texts without discriminating race, gender, political ideologies, and religious beliefs, taking into account the scientific content, its importance, and what innovations it can bring to the academy.
  • To select qualified evaluators/reviewers.
  • To publish errata and rectification whenever errors are pointed out in already published issues.
  • To evaluate a report a violation of the ethics code and, if it is confirmed, to take necessary measures according to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) flowchart of conflict resolution.

 

Responsibilities of the reviewers/revisors

  • To conduct a critical and constructive revision, taking into account the scientific and textual aspects, and seeking to instigate improvement of the manuscripts.
  • To not withhold information/content of the evaluated texts, neither to discuss about the texts before their publication.
  • To respect delimited deadlines.

 

Responsibilities of the readers

  • To mention the source and authorship when sharing or using as a base any content conveyed by Intexto.
  • To report any suspicions of ethical infractions concerning content conveyed by Intexto, or the role and responsibilities of its authors, reviewers and editors.
