Abstract

In this study, we review aspects of the carcinogenesis, epidemiology, risk factors, and molecular biology related to gastric cancer. We also review experimental models of carcinogenesis that use exogenous drugs or gastric surgery to induce cancer. The importance of duodenogastric reflux, of endogenous formation of N-nitroso compounds, and of the potential enhancing effects of bile acid on stomach tumorigenesis are discussed.
