Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

GEARTE Journal does not charge fees for submission and publication of articles.

1. GEARTE Journal publishes unpublished works in Portuguese, Spanish and English resulting from theoretical studies, research, reflections and contemporary debates in the area of visual arts education that focus on the relationship between education, art, language and technology, dialoguing with different theoretical contributions. It has a section dedicated to Visual Essays and results of Art Based Research (Investigación Basada en las Artes – IBA; Arts-Based Research – ABR; Pesquisa Educacional Baseada em Arte – Arts-Based Educational Research – ABER). It publishes articles, visual and audiovisual essays, verbal-visual testimonies, poetic essays and audio interviews.

2. The selection of papers for publication uses as reference its contribution to the field of Visual Arts Education. It also considers the originality of the theme or the treatment given to the subject, the consistency and the theoretical and methodological rigor and the quality of the text. The author is entirely responsible for the form and content of his/her article.

3. Texts that present images and / or videos, should have them presented in the text body, subtitled above the insertion and with the source placed below the figure, in single-spaced and centralized. The authors declare that they have permission to use the images inserted.

4. The works of both thematic and streaming sections should be inserted into the journal's site by the author and go the same peer review process. See the details in "Peer review process".

5. The texts should be sent through the SEER system (https://seer.ufrgs.br/gearte). The file with the article must be free of any type of identification, either by the name of the authors entered in the body of the text or in the properties of the file, or by the mention of information by means of which the authorship can be deduced. If you have difficulty making the article anonymous, just mention it in the "editor comments" during the online submission process.

6. Authors' identification data should be entered only in the appropriate fields of the article and author registration page in the submission system, including: full name of the author; postal address with city, state and country; telephone; email; e-mail address of the Lattes Curriculum, ORCID or equivalent; biography (up to five lines), emphasizing the institutional affiliation and its acronym, the academic and artistic formations. The research funding body should be mentioned, when appropriate, within the appropriate framework. This data should not be included in the Microsoft Word file submitted in the site.

7. 7. The submitted text must have the following structure according to the FORMATTING TEMPLATE:

7.1. A4 paper format;

7.2. left and upper margins should measure 3 cm and the right and lower margins 2 cm;

7.3. paragraph justified, with spacing before and after 12pt.

7.4. 1,5 line space;

7.5. Arial font, body 12.

8. The text must have the following structure:

8.1. the file should begin by a cover sheet with title page in the original language  (maximum 150 characters with space), the abstract in the original language  (between 400 and 700 characters) and five keywords in the original language; title in English, abstract and five Keywords. The cover sheet can not contain any identification of the authors;

8.2. insert the title in the first line, followed by the subtitle, if any, with Arial font, size 12, bold style, center alignment, single-spaced, with no space before or after the paragraph, and only initials or proper names must use capital letters. The title should not be underlined, but you can use italics only for foreign word spellings. Separate the abstract title by two lines, between single lines;

8.3. place the word abstract, with font Arial, size 10, bold style, high box, left alignment, simple lines, no space before or after paragraph. After the word abstract, between dashes, put the title in the original language in bold. The abstract text in the original language should be between 400 and 700 characters long with spaces, in a single paragraph, with Arial font, size 10, normal style, justified alignment, between single lines, without space before or after the paragraph. In the line below the abstract, put keywords;

8.4. use the expression Keywords, Arial font, size 10, bold style, uppercase, left alignment, single-line spacing, no space before or after paragraph. In the line below, put a maximum of 5 keywords in the original language, separated by period. Separate the keywords of the abstract in foreign language by two lines, between single lines;

8.5. the abstracts in a foreign language should be in English or Spanish and must follow the same standard of the abstract in Portuguese, replacing the word resumo with abstract or resumen, respectively. The title of the article should be translated into the foreign language. In the line below the abstract or resumen put keywords or palabras clave;

8.6. the foreign-language keywords should follow the same standard of the keywords in Portuguese, replacing the palavras-chave phrase with keywords or palabras clave, respectively. Separate the foreign language keywords from the body of the text by two blank lines, between 1.5 lines.

8.7. the subheadings should use font Arial, size 12, bold style, upper and lower case, justified, between 1.5 lines, with a space of 12 points before and after the paragraph.

8.8. the body of the text should use font Arial, size 12, normal style, upper and lower case, justified, between 1.5 lines, with a space of 12 points before the paragraph, and with paragraph indentation of 1.25 in the first line.

8.9. the full article (including title, authors, abstract, body text, tables, references and notes) should be between 25,000 and 60,000 characters with spaces.

8.10. citations of up to three lines should retain the formatting defined above for the text body. Citations with more than three lines should appear detached from the body of the text, in single space, in body 10, without quotation marks and indented 4 cm from the left margin. 8.11. double quotation marks are used only for direct quotes in the text body;

8.12. the citations must use the author-date call system (Author Last Name, year) or (Author Last Name, year, p. xx). Different titles of the same author, published in the same year, should be differentiated by adding a letter after the date (Author surname, Anoa, p. Xx).

8.13. italic is used for foreign words, neologisms, for private use and titles of works. Do not use bold in these cases;

8.14. used underlining URL only;

8.15. the images, in jpg, png or gif format, minimum resolution of 72 dpi and maximum of 150 dpi, must be arranged in the body of the text, with subtitles above and source below the images, in Arial font, size 10, centralized alignment, between lines 1.5 lines. The images must be referenced and sequenced in the text with the indication of Figure 1, Figure 2, etc .;

8.16. in the act of submitting the article, the authorship of the images should be included only if it does not coincide with the authorship of the article, in order to preserve the blind peer evaluation of the work. If they coincide, the author should delete this information and include it only after the approval of the article, in the final version.

8.17. insert only explanatory endnotes, sequentially numbered with Arabic numerals, with Arial font, size 10, normal style, upper and lower case, justified, between single lines, without space before or after the paragraph. Separate the endnotes from the references by two blank lines, between 1,5 lines;

8.18. bibliographical, electronic or other material references should contain only the authors and texts quoted in the paper and be presented at the end of the article, in alphabetical order. They should be preceded by the word references and follow the ABNT standard (https://www.ufrgs.br/bibedu/normas-technologies-2), with font Arial, size 10, normal style, upper and lower case, justified, between simple lines with no space before and with a space of 6 points after the paragraph. The journal does not use the dash to replace the author name. The titles of the works must be in italics.

Books:

AUTHOR'S SURNAME, First names without abbreviation. Book title: subtitle. Place of publication: Publisher, year of publication.

Book Chapters:

Journals:

AUTHOR'S SURNAME, First names without abbreviation. Title of the article: subtitle. Journal title, Place of publication, Institution, volume number, issue number, first and last pages of the article, month and year of publication.

Theses and Dissertations:

AUTHOR'S SURNAME, First names without abbreviation. Title: subtitle. Place: Institution, year of publication. Number of pages. Dissertation (Master in) or Thesis (Doctorate in) - Name of the Program, Name of Faculty and University, Place and year of the defense.

Electronic document:

AUTHOR'S SURNAME, First names without abbreviations. Title. Edition. Place: year. Number of page or volume (series) (if any). Available at: Access on: day, month (abbreviated), year.
