Abstract

In the last decades, films that portray violence have become more and more popular to people who consume cinema and video. In this universe a particular kind of filmic image has become increasingly recurrent, which helped to create a discourse about violence that seems to go beyond geographical and cultural boundaries. In this article I discuss the possibility of taking films as the object of a research study and start analyzing the symbolism inherent in some images of violence. By doing this, I attempt to better understand which are the values and beliefs that compose the conceptions involved in this social phenomenon.
