The review discusses the brazilian capoeira, with emphasis on Rio de Janeiro. The work traces the historical aspects of the sport, highlighting the Rio de Janeiro capoeira and capoeira gangs that bothered the elite of Rio de Janeiro. The origin of the poultry described in the work is a subject of criticism by reviewers, since the references obtained by them three chances for the emergence of capoeira and that references to the origin in the quilombos have no plausible arguments. Vidor and Reis narrate the story of two icons, namely, Bimba master that influenced the institutionalization of capoeira as a sport and fight, and his legacy Regional Capoeira and Pastinha master who helped in spreading internationally Brazilian culture, being representative of capoeira Angola. The review also presents the cultural interpretation of capoeira by the authors through the symbolic universe represented in the sport that will wheel the berimbau.
